Scavenger Hunt Stop #11
Thanks so much for stopping by for the Fall Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunt! The hunt begins at noon (MDT) on October 25th and ends midnight (MDT) on October 28th. I'm number 11 on 31 stops of authors who have new or soon-to-be released novels. The rules are simple:
1) Begin at Stop #1 and collect the clue in red on the bottom of each post.
ABOUT HER GOOD NAME
AN EXCLUSIVE FROM RUTH AXTELL
The thriving logging town of Holliston in 1890 downeast Maine is the main setting for Her Good Name. Here are some photos and a short video of the town it was based on. I took some liberties with the geography but from these photos you can get an idea of some of its primary features.
Click here to watch a video of Holliston.
The bridge spanning these rapids in the Machias River (aka “Holliston River”) was a covered bridge in 1890. Here Warren and Espy cross each other’s path a few times. You can experience its deafening roar in the short video I filmed—hard to make romantic conversation there. One of Warren’s father’s sawmills was located right by the bridge, alongside the river. Remains of the actual mills are still visible.
You can see how calm the river is farther upstream. This wooded area shows where the logs came downstream during the spring river drives.
I’ve also taken a picture of one of the original churches right in town. This is the church Espy and Warren attend and where they work together with a young people’s club.
I hope this makes the setting for Her Good Name come alive for you. I love walking the streets of old towns and cities, imagining characters back in time. For more information about my historical romances, visit me at ruthaxtell.com.
You can purchase Ruth Axtell’s novel, Her Good Name, at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, CBD, BAM, or at your local bookstore.
Which historical time period is your favorite to read about?
1) Begin at Stop #1 and collect the clue in red on the bottom of each post.
2) After you collect all the clues, fill out the Rafflecopter form on Stop #32.
3) On October 29th, the winner will receive an email. If you receive the email, be prepared to provide the completed clue quote (the words you will have gathered from all 31 stops). If the winner doesn't send the completed clue quote in 24 hours, another winner will be selected.

INTRODUCING RUTH AXTELL
I'm so thrilled to have my friend Ruth Axtell as a guest today! Ruth has published thirteen historical romances, and she has lived all over the world including Paris, the Canary Islands, and the Netherlands. She now lives on one of my very favorite places (the coast of Maine) and her latest novel Her Good Name will take you on a journey back more than a hundred years ago to a small town in her beautiful home state.

ABOUT HER GOOD NAME
(Holliston, Maine, 1892)No matter how striking she is, a fisherman’s daughter doesn’t stand a
chance with Warren Brentwood, the heir of the local lumber empire. So
in an effort to better her life and eventually catch Warren’s eye, Espy
takes a job at the local professor’s home. But when the professor begins
to tutor her, the rumors begin to fly.
Scandal turns Espy’s world upside down and she flees town in disgrace. Alone and penniless, Espy has nothing left but her faith when she is rescued by a missionary family. Espy longs to return home freed from the lies that surrounded her departure. But will anyone–particularly Warren–believe in her professed innocence?

I love being swept into another time period and place, and Ruth sweeps away readers in her latest novel Her Good Name. I hope you enjoy reading a bit of the "story behind the story" as much as I did. When you comment below, Ruth would love to know which historical period you enjoy reading about!

Ruth's book really does looking interesting, I mean it involves water! :) hehe
My favorite historical period to read about... Hmm. I like medieval, revolutionary, all kinds!
This is sooooo fun!!
My two favorite historical periods are in the time of the Romans and the medieval ages! Like "A Voice in the Wind" by Francine Rivers and "Waterfall" by Lisa Tawn Bergren!!
Actually, I really read about all of them!
My favorite time period is Civil War and Revoluntionary War eras.
There are so many books I am finding that I would love to read! My library won't get all of them in, which means Amazon is going to be my best friend for getting them.
LOVE this Scavenger Hunt! And am excited to add this book to my TBR list!!! amy(at)amydrown(dot)com
This one sounds good, too! I love how far I can "travel" through historical fiction.
Great post. This Scavenger Hunt is fun!
I love this cover for Ruth's book. Thanks for this great post!
This is so much fun looking at all the different author's blog. Hope you do this again....this is great!!!! :)

Thanks so much for this scavenger hunt!
Its too hard to pick one era! But today I'll say the Civil War era.
My favorite time periods to read about in historical fiction are medieval times and late 1700's early 1800's :-) Love this scavenger hunt!

It's great you guys all put this hunt together! It's really interesting.
Love all the pictures in the post! I'm learning about so many new and great authors!
My favorite historical period...I think it would almost be easier to say what I don't like, lol.
I enjoyed this stop on the scavenger hunt! Thanks!
Hmmm. Hard choice for what time period is my favorite read. I guess if it's a well-written book, I like any time period.
Oh wow!! I've just written the title down so that, if I don't win, it goes on my Christmas list! Love the sound of the story!!
Oh wow, I just love WWII era and also pioneers of the west...so many to choose from!
Thank you so much for being part of the scavenger hunt!
My favorite historical period to read about is probably medieval. I also find the Civil War time period very interesting to read about.
Favorite era to read about -- partly depends on locale. I like regency, Edwardian, 1800-1920, Downton Abbey types. But I've loved Liz Curtis Higgs Scottish set earlier & later, Angela Hunt's Afton & other historical, and Biblical times... so many. Why be limited to one?
Mary Kay
I am beginning to like this hunt!!
I'm not sure that I have a favorite time period to read about. I really enjoy experiencing and learning about a variety of different times and cultures.
Thanks for participating in the hunt!

This is way too much fun.
Thank you so much for the clue! :D
Love the scavenger hunt.
My favorite is late 1800s which is the sweet spot in Christian fiction, my second favorite is Medieval, which unfortunately is NOT the sweet spot.
Am enjoying the "Hunt" I have read some of Ruth's books thanks for sharing info on her today.
The time period I like is Colonial at beginning of westward movement and the wagon trains, esp orphan train stories.
thanks for sharing today

Thanks for all our responses about favorite historical time periods. I must say that my favorites are late 19th century (late Victorian) and Regency England. But as someone posted, if the story is good, any time period is interesting. If you like frontier Colonial as someone said, then you'll probably enjoy Laura Franz. And if you like WWII, as another said, you'll like Sarah Sundin and Dan Walsh.
Thank you for joining in the hunt!
Love the scavenger hunt! Thanks for being a part of it!

That church is so cool! Being able to see a picture does make books come alive :)

I like to read about several, but I think my favorite would be the WWII era.
i don't have a 'favourite' period...i think that each author brings this time period to life

Thank you for being part of the hunt. :)
Having so much fun doing this hunt 8)
This hunt is really fun! Love your books!
I enjoy learning about the history of all time periods, but when it comes to historical fiction writing I really like the biblical days (OT & NT).
I enjoy reading historical fiction in general so it's hard to pick one favorite time period - perhaps Regency England and frontier Colonial. :)

Instead of a particular time period, what's really interesting to me are strong women and how they handled their hardships and restrictions, physical and social.

Love the scavenger hunt!!
This is a great scavenger hunt. I'm so glad to get to know so many great authors.
Thanks for the scavenger hunt, it's great fun.
My favorite historical time period to read about is World War Two.
Ruth Ann Dell
Would love to win your book. I also want to read the one "Love Finds you in Mackinac Island." We drove near the island when I was a little girl but my dad couldn't afford the ferry ride over. I still dream of going there some day!
This looks like a good read, thanks for the info on it!
These books look great!
Your books look great!
I'm not sure if I commented already (and I'm too lazy to scroll through to see). I only discovered halfway through the contest that to be eligible for the grand prize, one must comment on each blog that allows it. Anyway, I'm loving the contest because I'm discovering all sorts of authors I didn't know of before! I just wish it didn't close earlier than the rules said (it's not yet midnight mountain time, but rafflecopter said it was over). I'm hoping I'll still be eligible! :D
I enjoyed the video. It brings the setting to life, especially when you point out the bit about the roar of the river. I love learning extra things about novels, the research and stuff behind it.
