Faith like a Child
Two Christian girls murdered on their way home from school in Indonesia.
The headline caught my eye, and even though I knew these girls were safe with our Heavenly Father, my heart broke for their parents, their sisters and brothers, their friends, and their church.
Who would want to harm a child just because they believed in God?
I worried for weeks after I read the story because we sponsor a sweet fourth grader in Indonesia. What if she was one of these girls?
Then I received a letter from Putri, and she was worried about ME. Afraid that my family had been hurt in Hurricane Katrina or Rita (it takes awhile for our letters to travel through the system).
She wrote: “I just want you to know that I am always thinking of you and praying for you. I remember one beautiful verse that can strengthen all of us, it is taken from Isaiah 48:1. ‘Fear not, For I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.’
“When tragedy hits, God gives us the faith to believe that, in everything, He works for good, and that we can turn tragedy into triumph! Jesus takes care of you and He is always with you. Just know that I am here praying for you always…”
I don’t worry about Putri anymore. Even though she’s a child, she’s a warrior of faith, and she’s wrapped up in God’s loving arms.
I’m humbled by her encouragement. Blessed. And when my future seems uncertain, I’m grateful for every one of her prayers.
